Biological application of Panchamahabhutas reflects in the form of Tridosha. Here ‘Tri’ means three and Dosha’ represents to humor (bio-entity). Thus the word ‘Tridosha’ denotes to three humors i.e. Vata, Pitta and Kapha. These are said ‘Dosha’ because these have tendency to get vitiated and also to vitiate others. This bilateral tendency of Dosha is cause of health and diseases. State of balance of Dosha represents health while imbalance to the disease. Every Dosha has definite place/location and functions in our body. All have their five types respectively.
Ayurveda describes each individual as a state of balance of the three doshas, which governs different aspects of the body. Vata dosha controls the principle of self-transportation, Pitta dosha controls internal processes such as digestion and metabolism, Kapha dosha encompasses our bodily protection, strength and growth. Because no two people have the same combination of these three doshas, everyone is a unique individual and individualized care and attention is needed for the treatment. When an imbalance occurs, proper diet and lifestyle changes can be implemented to bring the doshas back in balance.
In such a case, one may be advised for specific dosha-reducing / aggravating foods, activities and medications or may even opt for Pancha Karma, an internal cleansing system of Ayurveda.
This not the case with all the medicine. There are also some medicine which are “cool” in nature and also some which are neither cool nor hot in nature. These medicines are advised by doctor considering lot of factors like constitution of patient, condition of the patient, climatic conditions, causative factors, state of diease etc..
The cause of this belief is your unawareness about your own body sytems. There is difference between masking the disease symptoms and actually healing you inside-out. Ayurvedic treatment eradicates the root cause of a disease thus it seems apparently that it takes more time. There are diseases like many skin disorders, gastric ulcer, joint disorders, neuromuscular disorders, colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, mental retardness, growth retardness, asthma, TB, hypertension, diabetes, hyperacidity, sinusitis, epilepsy and scores of others where treatment is required for longer duration or for life time in any system of medicine.
Ayurveda Can give either permanent cure for many of the above and better relief without giving rise to any side effects for some of them. Immediate symptomatic relief by modern medicine itself is mistaken as cure and compared to the time taken to cure by Ayurvedic medicines. Time taken to relieve pain? symptom and to cure the disease are not to be equated and thus not to be mistaken. Acute complaints like and emergency condition like an acute heart attack, brain heamorrhage, shock condition etc. requires medicines which act very quickly. Ayurveda lags little behind in such cases which should not however be generalized to brand it as slow acting.
Yes … few of them actually are. So we at A.I.M make sure that patients are given practical solutions and options to avoid the discomfort and increase the palatability.According to ayurveda there are 6 types of taste; viz. madhur( sweet), amla ( sour), lavana ( salty), katu ( hot), tikta ( bitter) and kashaya( astringent). Ayurvedic medicine can be of any of the above taste.
As with every science ayurveda have it own basic prinpicle. again if a particular cause have same effect every time it is called scientific, this can be done in ayurveda too. Further researches are underway done all over the world.
The early classical Ayurveda textbooks (samhitas) talk about the validation of knowledge and distinguish between real and chance effects of therapy. These works also contain elaborate methods to study properties of drugs, to develop new medical formulations, and protocols to study and understand the occurrence of new diseases. Research, it appears, was therefore in some way ingrained in the tradition of Ayurveda from the very beginning. The recently Ayurvedic community has in fact taken some significant leaps by publishing a few journals that have found their way into international research databases, including PubMed and Scopus.
Research work is going on in organized manner both in private and govt.sectors. Literary research, standardization of drugs (single and compound drugs),Survey of medical plants-their geographical distribution, identification of threatened and extinguished species, clinical research in classical drugs and diseases, pharmacological and pharmaceutical research, are already taken up. A number of scientists and institutions across the country have significantly contributed for research and development in Ayurvedic sciences and published outcomes of research in several forms such as research papers in international and national journals, technical reports, monographs etc.
Just for your reference, U may just check the list of researches published in about 700 scientific journals worldwide by clicking the following link

Ayurvedic medicine works both mentally & physically & also maintains energy balance of body. Ayurvedic medicine offers many methods of finding early stages of diseases. It consists of two methods i.e. Purification(shodhana) & conservative (shaman) treatment. It can also be taken as adjuvant with modern drugs as it synergize the activity of modern drugs, also reduces the side effects. Ayurveda aims at improving immunity & thus removing the root cause of the disease through natural means without any side effects.
Anything natural be it a herb or animal or mineral cannot be branded as good for health. There are many which are known for their toxicity. If these drugs are used as such deleterious effects on health are bound to occur . Ayurveda identifies such drugs and advises to purify them by some specific detailed procedures of detoxicating and reducing deleterious effects what so ever.
The dose, method of administering a drug, the vehicle to be used, the dietary prescription are strictly followed and hence no side effects observed. It is duty of ayurvedic Doctors to decide which medicine is suitable for which type of patient and it is also decided for how long these medicines should be taken. many of the ayurvedic drugs contains.
Herbal drugs used in our Ayurvedic Therapy are free from any toxicity or any adverse effects. Our products are guaranteed to be free of any steroids, chemicals & external metals
Heavy metals are used in the form of Bhasmas(ash). Bhasma does not contain the toxic form of metal or any impurities. bhasma is the transformation from inorganic non absorbable metal to a herbomineral product is brought about by submitting the metal to different ayurvedic processes namely Shodhan and Maran. Shodhan procedure removes all the impurities from the metal and makes it soft and brittle so that it becomes suitable for further processing. Maran implies that the original metal should not exist in its toxic form. Bhasma is light, fine, bioavailable and highly absorbable form of metal with complete change in physical and chemical properties. The toxicity is eliminated and medical properties are enhanced. Hence, there are no side effects with the use of Bhasmas when used in appropriate ways.
This is one of common belief among people, unfortunately it is inaapropriate. we say it is safe and efficacious and have no side effects only if taken in a proper dosage & in a prescribed way. even water consumed wrongly proves to be harmful.
Strict regimen (dietary and others ) should form a part Of management aspect of any disease in general. Certain dietary restrictions are necessary and this fact has been recognised even by modern medicines. Salt restriction in oedema, gout, renal disorders and sugar in diabetes, of fat oedema, gout, renal disorders and sugar in diabetes, of fat and fried substances in obesity, billiary and pancreatic stones etc. may be quoted here as exemplary ones, which are advisory to be followed even in modern medicine. In fact Ayurveda prescribes pathyahara, vihara, vichara for the followed even in modern medicine.Few of the important reasons to be aware about pathya-apathya are :
What is to be taken or not to be taken should be decided by selectively choosing from among the vast number of food and food articles. It requires a deep knowledge of deistic science and also a trained skill. To avoid such complexities involved in choosing a particular type of regimen some of the traditional Vaidyas resorted to much easier method to advising only milk or buttermilk diet or gruel of some sort which was harmless to the patient and also served the purpose to a large extent. This in course of time has adversely affected Ayurveda by creating a fear psychosis in the minds of common man. A pathya diet need not always be sugar free, salt free, condiments free. It can be palatable, acceptable and nourishing to the patient simultaneously serving the genuine purpose of dietary regimen. Finally, one should be vigilant about the quality, quantity and timing of food intake. Ayurveda advice the diet according to one’s own constitution (prakriti) or what suits to one’s body or lifestyle and season. There is no medicine better than food.
This is most common doubt among the public. Patients are curious to know whether any reaction takes place as a result of combination of modern medicine and Ayurveda medicine prescribed by respective physician or either of the two may not work ? or both may nullify each other ?Ordinarily there is no harm in taking both modern medicine and Ayurvedic medicine simultaneously. Some patients might have started modern medicine for hypertension, diabetes, neurological disorders, heart disease. Mental disorders, arthritis etc. which require prolonged, treatment. Before coming to Ayurvedic physician. In such condition, modern medicine need not be advised to be discontinued forthwith. It is advisible to discontinue, tapper down modern medicine gradually over a period of time, as advised by the physician. Better not to blindly mix both medicines of modern medicine and Ayurveda medicine for the same problem without consulting .
Ayurveda is very much reveant in todays world. in these days of modern technology with highly technical medicines, transplant surgery, laser beam surgery and genetic manipulation, modern medicine is moving so fast that they are overlooking the indvidual. Ayurveda encourages ressearch and inquiry, but not at the expense of the individual.this is a very crucial point: Ayurveda teaches us how to understand an individual:how to heal an individual ,and how to create harmony between body, mind and consciousness in daily life of the individual. additionaly ayurveda not only suggests medicines, but it gives us diet ,lifetsyle, cleansing, detoxification, and rejuvenation programs. all of this is quite relevant in todays world. a person may go to doctor or hospital, and may undergo variety of lab tests that indicate the person is normal. however ,the person still have pain, a coated tounge, headaches, indigestion and no happiness in their life. ayurveda can help create harmony, returning each individual to their healthy, happy ,balanced state
At AADVANCE INTEGRATED MEDICINE we treat the human body not only at physical level but also at emotional and spiritual level. The patients get treated by Ayurvedic treatment . many a times according to need of the patient and disease the treatment is integrated with other healing systems like manovedtm, panchakarma, marmachikitsa, acupuncture
A good Ayurvedic practitioner is interested in learning who you are, what makes you unique, your body, your mind, your diet, lifestyle, current health, and past health history. The focus is completely on you and the cause of disease symptoms but on not the disease itself. The notion is if you remove the cause(s) and promote health in mind and body, the disease symptoms will disappear. The other part is promoting health in one person is different from another. You are unique and so is everyone else. Thus in a very first visit an Ayurvedic practitioner uncovers your original unique mind-body constitution. Your constitution gives insight to Ayurvedic practitioner about what makes you, your physiology and psychology unique. Your original constitution is your true self in balance and health. Your disease condition alters your constitution and you start to live out of balance. An Ayurvedic practitioner’s approach is to remove the root cause of the disease and restore you back to your original (constitution) balance. Can you imagine, if your health practitioner doesn’t know your unique balance, how can he/she help restore it?
The Ayurvedic diagnosis is made on the basis of symptoms, udar parikshan and (pulse examination) nadi parikshan and the prescription is then made. Usually the treatment at is completed in three phases :
A.I.M is best ayurveda hospital which specializes in the following disorders :
Ayurveda functions in a multidimensional way as we already know one herb works on various disorders, when disease conditions become chronic, refractory to conventional treatment, a synchronized holistic approach of both have been found to be fruitful & successful. Depending upon disease condition & severity Ayurveda helps for a synergistic activity & sometimes to antagonize & minimize the toxicity of modern drugs like in cancer.
The word Marma literally means a Tender vital points, which is a conjugation of muscle, nerve, joint, bone, tendon, artery and vein either in combination of two, three etc. or all the above structures Marma are explained briefly in text of Ayurved (Sushrut Samhita, on Shalyatantra which can be co-related loosely to Surgery) as vital points in the body through which Prān (cosmic energy, vital breath) flows enabling healthy life. The actions of Marma are controlled by the Pranic Vayu (cosmic energy principle in human body). This Prana Vayu is essential to maintain the life or longevity of a person. Any obstruction to the flow of Prāna causes diseases which may lead to prolonged illness, deformity and death.
Marma are believed to be inter-connected by the manifestation of “pranic currents of energy in the body”. The importance of prana in the role of marma action appears to correlate with the Chinese model of qi circulation. Prana circulation in the human body has been recognised for at least 4,000 years. Research suggests that ancient Indian view, similar to that of the Chinese concept of qi and its circulation through the jingluo (network influence), as reflected in the writings of the Nan Ching (The Classic of Difficult Issues), a text believed to date to the 2nd Century BC (Unschuld, personal communication, 23/4/00).
Among the hidden sciences (Gupta Vidya) of India, Marma science is the most important. Marma-point massage dates back to southern India year 1500 BC. Masters of kalari, an ancient martial art, first discovered the power of Marma points. In battle, kalari fighters targeted an opponent's Marma point as a way to inflict pain and injury. According to kalari lore, people have 12 Marma points that, when hit with a knockout blow, can cause instant death. These areas were so important that soldiers even used armour to protect their horses' Marma points while riding into battle. Wounded kalari fighters were nursed back to health with Marma therapy. Practitioners used Marma-point massage to stimulate healing in areas that corresponded to the injuries. For blow to intestines, for example, the Marma point on the back of calf, which correspond with the transverse part of large intestine, is massaged to trigger flow of energy to induce healing. Ayurvedic physicians, all over India learnt the importance of this art and hired kalari masters in hospitals to teach . Soon, Marma-point training became mandatory for surgeons, who worked around specific points to prevent risk to life. Today marma-point chikitsa is still a respected component of Ayurvedic healing.
It refers to certain practices in form of Āsana, Bandha, Mudrā and certain Kriya's (co-ordinated flows) , abhyanga ,mrudupidan which enable the practitioner to keep the flow of Prāna unobstructed through the Marma's and also enable healing.
Marma Chikitsa is a significant aspect of the AYURVEDIC treatments where specific points are present on the body where the application of pressure induces the flow of vital energy (prana) along a complex system of subtle channels called (nadis). Based on the knowledge enumerated in Dhanur Veda (deals in martial art) ayurveda recognizes about 107 therapeutic marmma points. The injury to some of these lethal marma points can lead to instant death.
The healing through marma chikitsa affects the chakras, Physical health and the doshas. The purpose of a marma chikitsa is to stimulate the various body organs and systems.
A.I.M has designed very effective protocols for quick results and holistic healing of various aliments. Marma chikitsa is an important treatment many of these protocols:
In Susruta Samhita a number of harmful and dangerous factors are mentioned for the mother and foetus during pregnancy. In Dauhridayavastha (specific period of pregrnancy ) it is said that what is not favourable for the mother, the conditions that are not favourable for the mother are also not favourable for the foetus. Keeping this concept in mind, in pregnancy, marma chikitsa should not be done as usual. It may lead to abortion or any congenital foetal lesions. Any trauma to the vital parts of mother can affect the vital energy of the mother as well as of the foetus. Any diminution in the vitality of the foetus may be dangerous, because the pregnancy period is very important for the mother and foetus both. Any traumatic factor or vitiated dosha which affects the particular organ or body part of the mother, also affects the same organ or body part of the foetus. Specific marma chikitsa with milder techniques (massage, tapping, less pressure, application of oil, paste etc. over vital points) can be advocated in the pregnant mother for her ailments and for the prevention of congenital anomalies of the baby.
It is believed that in Ayurveda instant emergency management of disease and pain management is not available, but with marma therapy we can bridge the gap of this lacuna effectively. We at A.I.M have been successful in treating many such conditions to provide immediate relief to numerous patients.. In the present times, the saturation point has come in the field of western medicine. The side effects of many Allopathic medicines are obvious. Scientists and researchers are very keen to offer an alternative medical system to suffering humanity of the world. Ayurveda and marma science can fulfil these criteria.
Panchakarma is the process in which systematic cleansing of the body takes place without damaging the tissues. In other words, it can be defined as a bio-purifiacation rather than “detox” of the body.
There are five in number, including Vamana (therapeutic emesis), Virechana (therapeutic purgation), Basti (therapeutic decoction & oil enema), Nasya (therapeutic nasal administration), Raktamokshana (blood letting), and many other allied treatments required as pre and pro-procedures to the Panchkarma treatments.
There are five major bio-purification processes. It includes,
Yes , now a days various treatments are generally coined as panchakarma, actually they can be termed the “Upakarma” (site therapy). There are five major treatments for deep cleansing but for general health maintenance there are more than 300 treatments called upakarma—selective treatments. Few of them are jaanu basti, kati basti, hridbasti, griva basti, netra tarpan ,netra anjan etc. These treatments as useful along with major 5 types of panchkarma treatments for specific diseases or aliments. For example, nowhere in panchakarma is kati basti mentioned, but it is very useful in conditions like sytica along with basti treatment.
When all five therapies have been performed one after another, then it is when you actually have undergone the panchakarma treatment. That protocol is still present in Ayurveda and it takes more than three or four months to do the whole panchakarma process. Actually there are very few conditions where all the 5 procedures are required. In majority of the cases 1 or 2 procedures facilitates immediate healing responses .In many conditions not more than 2 or 3 karmas are required , which may take from 3 days to 10 days. Few times 10-14 days programs are advised to few patients. If you have longstanding chronic imbalances, then a seven to fourteen day program are essential to for deep cleansing of the body’s seven tissues (sapta dhatu). Three days would be the minimum time to activate cleansing. A single Panchakarma treatment is valuable to totally unwind and relax, but will not activate a deep extended cleanse and bio-purification.
Yes It has to be selective. For example, for a vata/pitta with spinal problems, out of the five treatments(panchakarma), only basti enema would do a world of good. Otherwise, panchakarma is advisable for everyone. But the reason why we are selective and not advising it for everyone is that out of 10 people I know 8 will cheat on the prescribed diet and lifestyle medication, will be mentally weak or are not careful with themselves. In classical panchakarma there’s a preparatory process, the execution of the treatment and the dietary regime. In the beginning you’re given internal oils—oils or ghee according to what your nature suggests. After the preparation it takes five to seven days. After the seven days, after your body is thoroughly oilated, then the induction of medicine is given for the purpose of the panchakarma. This whole process required mental strength, discipline, trust and lifestyle correction , which is why very few people are commited to. That is the reason Ayurveda says that when you take anybody for a panchakarma you have to be very selective in choosing. For panchakarma one has to be mentally very strong.
Whoever says alternative medicines do not have any side effects is very wrong. For example, in naturopathy food is a medicine but who says that food has no allergic reaction or side effect. If you eat in excess you’ll purge it. That’s nothing but a side effect. It’s as good as taking a paracetemol tablet and getting gastritis or eating too much food and getting gastritis. You cannot say allopathy is bad because it has side effects and naturopathy is good because it does not. Both systems have their own implications. One has to be very selective with their treatments—you know what kind of treatments are required and when. The problem is that people are not careful with themselves. one may start panchakarma with very good enthusiasm. we know it will definitely be effective for them and will add years of lifespan to their life. But if they cheat, the whole system can have an adverse effect on their body and they won’t understand. Even if they’re counselled on everything they will still not understand. So that’s the only reason why we are very selective.
Panchakarma is beneficial in the management of various systemic diseases e.g.
It is also widely prescribed in chronically incurable diseases and for improving the quality of life
continuous mental and physical strain causes exhaustion , fatigue . it decreases the productivity. Which ultimately affects adversely your ability to achieve. Ayurvediya Panchakarma process destresses an individual. Diet is the second thing that helps in rejuvenation because you’re taking a break from the normal, carbohydrate rich diet and coming back to the wholistic diet, which is a cleansing diet. Third, all these treatments like massages facilitates the blood circulation in the body. It rejuvenates your mind and body. In fact we do have lot business owners and sportpersons, IT professionals, mangers who regularly undergo the rejuvenation process just to optimize their ability. It is as simple as understanding the need of your body to get itself cleansed internally similar to any machine which requires regular servicing and oiling.
First step: First step is consultation with the doctor involving Pulse and complete physical examination, after diagnosis doctor will decide a specific treatment protocol for you including lifestyle changes, Dietary recommendations, Prescription of herbs and a Specific and unique Panchakarma treatment protocol if needed.
Second step: If any Panchakarma treatments are prescribed by the doctor, they are performed by experienced therapists under the strict observation of the doctor. There is a regular check up and examination by the doctor during treatments.
Third Step: After Treatments are finished a follow up consultation including follow up advices, Dietary recommendations, Rejuvenative herbs and follow up prescription is given.
After completion of Panchkarma treatment, specific the diet regime should be adhered to for at leas 4 to 7 days, and thereafter as often as possible. Diet plays an important role during the treatment process. The doctor will advise according to the individual’s body constituents and the treatment to be followed It is advisable to rest the body for a couple of days before embarking upon a journey after completion of Panchkarma. Avoid physical and mental strenuous activities too soon
Elimination of physical and mental toxins might give rise to various physical and mental symptoms, like weakness, dizziness, lethargy, drowsiness, dryness, irritation, digestive upsets, sneezing, restlessness, excitability, anger, emotional upsets, mood swings, recalling old thoughts, actions and events, heightened sexual desire, craving for different tastes, etc. These symptoms disappear automatically. Energy levels may vary from day to day since Panchkarma besides being a cleansing process also works at very subtle energy levels .The energy levels begin to normalize once the entire procedure is complete. It may however take a week or more The real benefit from Panchkarma can be perceived after 7 to 15 days. Benefits may vary at a personal level depending upon the body’s individual response and the post-Panchkarma routine advised by the physicial
During the bio purification by panchakarma therapy, the balanced dhatus are eliminated along with the vitiated doshas; this process involves loss of body fluids too. This causes a temporary fatigue or minor weakness for a day or less. Hence, to counter the weakness a nourishing diet with ghee, milk, and vegetable soups is provided to maintain proper energy. These are signs during a transisation from unhealthy sate to healthy state of body and mind. These symptoms are reduced in very short time.
As in any therapy if the treatment is not carried out properly and without proper guidance, it may produce undesirable effects. Also there are drugs that sometimes contraindicated for certain patients. Consultation with qualified Doctors and treatment carried out under strict supervision will produce excellent desired results without side effects.
Yes, the female patients are attended by female therapists
Panchakarma helps to cleanse toxins that accumulate from improperly digested food, as well as other environmental factors, such as seasonal changes, stress and unresolved emotions, and provides a deep state of relaxation that helps to release chronic stress and tension, all of which act as obstacles to the healing process of chronic diseases and to your overall well being. Panchakarma also helps to counteract imbalances caused by seasonal changes, which can often weaken your immunity and leave you predisposed to ailments such as inflammations, colds, flu, respiratory infections, allergies, depression, etc., depending on your constitution and constitutional weaknesses.in short panchakarma :

Acupuncture is a means of adjusting the body's life energy (chi or qi) through the insertion of fine needles into carefully selected acupuncture points along the meridians of the body. The needles, which have a rounded end rather than a sharp cutting one, are inserted into the points and are then manipulated with a gentle pumping action, by twirling or leaving in place for a few minutes.
These motions stimulate the flow of energy and remove blockages so that the qi can be dispersed and regulated. When the qi is flowing properly throughout the body, the balance is restored and improved health results.
Athough many theories have been presented, there is still no easy answer as to exactly how acupuncture works. The "Gate Control" theory suggests that pain impulses are blocked from reaching the spinal cord or brain at various "gates" to these areas. Since a majority of acupuncture points are either located near, or connected to neural structures, this suggests that acupuncture stimulates the nervous system to "shut the gate" to the sensation of pain.
Other theories suggest that acupuncture stimulates the body to produce narcotic like substances such as endorphins and opiods which, when released into the body, relieve pain. One thing is certain, although we may not know precisely how it works, studies have shown that it does work for a large majority of people and conditions.
The answer to this question is no. While having a positive state of mind helps with any type of treatment, conventional or otherwise, it is not necessary to "believe" in acupuncture for it to work. This is evidenced not only through clinical study in "non-believers", but by the fact that animals and small children who cannot be instructed to "believe" receive relief through the use of acupuncture.
An acupuncturist may be consulted for specific symptoms and conditions such as pain, anxiety, arthritis, asthma, migraine, other conditions. The World Health Organization (WHO) has listed the above conditions and many more as being responsive to acupuncture treatment.
There has been extensive practice and research that has evidenced that acupuncture is effective in helping patients with many of the conditions listed by WHO as well as many others. It does more than simply relieve the symptoms. The aim of acupuncture is to treat the whole patient and restore balance between the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of the individual. Many people also have acupuncture as a preventative treatment, which is the most important benefit of this medicine
Usually, a series of treatments are necessary to resolve a condition. Each case and condition is treated individually. A consultation is required to determine requirements. Treatments can be between 45 to 90 minutes in length with the first consultation usually lasting longer. It is best to consult with our experts for more details about your specific treatment plan. Depending upon the severity About 2 to 15 settings are usually required .
The sensation of receiving an acupuncture treatment can rarely be described as painful. Now that is not to say that it is devoid of sensation. But, generally the feeling is more of a tingling.
Acupuncture needles have a doweled end and therefore do not cut the skin as regular injection needles do. Most patients have stated that there is little or no pain as very fine Following treatment it is common for the patient to feel a tremendous sense of relaxation, and/or exhileration.
Children of all ages are treated and respond well to acupuncture and Ayurveda l treatment. In addition, young children of those apprehensive of the use of acupuncture needles may be treated without needles using or electrical probes. In addition, herbal formulas are usually prescribed to enhance the acupuncture treatments and to provide further care between treatments as well.
This is a very common question among those who have never experienced an acupuncture treatment. The answer relies on the skill of the practitioner. If he or she is unsure of what they are doing, it is certainly possible to inflict injury with an acupuncture needle. However, when practiced by a licensed, trained acupuncturist, acupuncture is extremely safe and there is no danger whatsoever. The importance of seeking an appropriately trained practitioner cannot be overstated. In AIM we use Sterile, disposable needles are used. Treatments are available without the use of needles in AIM
There are very few situations where acupuncture is not advised. These are the most common:
Before undergoing any acupuncture treatment, ask the practitioner about their sterilization procedures. All registered acupuncturists are required by law to sterilize needles.
It is in their own interest, as much as in the patient's, to use extreme caution. For this reason, some practitioners use disposable needles which can be disgarded following the treatment of each patient. In cases where disposable needles are not used, the practitioner will have a sterilizer (called an autoclave) in the clinic, or may use hospital sterilization services.
Acupuncture is no different than any other form of medical treatment. Upon the patient's first visit, the practitioner will record basic biographical information about the patient, and will then proceed with the diagnostic framework of aadvance integrated medicine system, described as the four examinations. These include: observation, listening andsmelling, questioning, and touching. Once the diagnosis is complete, the practitioner will discuss the treatment with the patient, and the patient will have an opportunity to ask questions - i.e. how many needles will be used, at which acupoints, possible duration of treatment, complimentary treatments such as herbal medicine, etc.
As previously mentioned, acupuncture is an extremely safe method of treatment, and as such, side effects and complications are extremely rare when treated by an experienced, licensed practitioner. However, a small number of patients do have reactions to the procedure which may include nausea, light headedness and fainting. As in any matter pertaining to health, any concerns should be discussed with the practitioner prior to treatment and following treatment to ensure maximum effectiveness.
